Women Rock the Vote at the Put-in-Bay Music Festival
Put-in-Bay-The Put-in-Bay Music Festival Committee, chaired by National Park Service Superintendent Barbara Rowles, is excited to announce “Women Rock the Vote”. This day long music festival celebrates the momentous 100th Anniversary for the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote. Not just for Ohio but for the nations Women’s Suffrage Movement. This years free concert will feature all female, and female led bands who will play this festival in Put-in-Bay on June 5th noon to 7pm.
The Annual Put-in-Bay Music Festival, hosted by the National Park Service at Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial, will “rock the vote” with great live music, awesome food, and fun games in the beautiful lakeside Peace Garden at Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial here on South Bass Island.
The National Park Service has partnered with the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission to commemorate this significant 100th Anniversary of 19th Amendment not just here in Ohio but countrywide! Superintendent Rowles added “having this year’s concert be so closely aligned with our national partnership with the Women’s Suffrage Centennial merges nicely with the National Park Service mission and our commitment to community involvement”. We see this year’s event as a great way to celebrate and promote the right to vote by all Americans. We hope this concert provides a reason for everyone to join us and celebrate Women’s Right to Rock the Vote”.
To highlight the important centennial the 2021 Put-in-Bay Music festival will feature all female, and female led bands to further honor “Women’s Right To Vote”. This years line up is an exceptional cross section of musical Americana. The day long festival will include a performance by students from Farmington, Michigan’s School of Rock, Toledo’s high revving Amelia Airharts, Cleveland’s indy rock band AJ and the Woods, rising country rock star Ashley Martin, and feature Michigan’s amazing rockers The Accidentals. The festival will conclude with our own amazing island singer Allie Market, who reunites with her band The Rockers to bring it all home for our audience.
The free concert will provide anyone not registered to vote with the information on how to sign up for the November election. This music festival will provide a non-partisan opportunity to raise awareness for the 2020 elections and beyond. We think there is a great opportunity to connect with a wide audience that comes to Put-in-Bay to promote great music and voter registration awareness in Ohio.
We have reached out to the Ohio History Connection, Rock the Vote, Ohio League of Women Voters, and the Ottawa County GOP and Democratic parties to help create a memorable and powerful non-partisan event celebrating the 19th Amendment ratification. But more importantly this will be a musical treat to hear and see such a great line up of our regions best female bands.
