Weekend Wine Tastes Better on an Island
It should come as no surprise that fermented grapes taste just a tad bit better at Put-in-Bay because let’s face it, everything’s more fun on an island. With the Island Wine Festival slated for this Saturday, October 4 from 11pm – 6pm at the Put-in-Bay Winery and more than 400 international wines available for tasting, even the most seasoned sommelier would have trouble getting to everything.
Of course what would the annual festival be without a little local flavor? Heineman’s Winery, an island staple that has been serving quality wine since 1888, will be firmly represented as well as the Put-in-Bay Winery, another world renowned South Bass favorite.
Sample tasting tickets for the event are $1 with most samples ranging from $1-$4. For those looking to continue the tasting party at home, full retail bottles will be available for purchase.
While wine is certainly the centerpiece this weekend, lucky visitors that make the trip will notice that autumn is slowly starting to dust the edges of the deciduous trees that fill the landscape of the region providing wonderful opportunities for fall photos. Now whether it’s aboard the Miller Ferry eagerly anticipating your island arrival or while sipping wine in DeRivera Park with a nice cheese plate, dust off that camera and start snapping.
