THIS is the Last Weekend of Summer: 4 Reasons Why You Should be on Island Time This Weekend
Officially, summer is not over. Somehow along the way we’ve been tricked out of a few precious summer weeks and while most recognize Labor Day as the end of summer, that’s really not the case as the fall equinox is technically September 22nd. So what’s it mean for us? While we’ve been rushing towards fall and please fall, don’t take this the wrong way, we love you, the warm season still has some fuel left in the tank.
To celebrate and cherish this last morsel of summer, let’s take a look at all the events happening and why you should put an island in your life this weekend.
- It’s Put-in-Bay New Year’s — Playing Monte Carlo street games in the middle of Delaware Ave. is something everyone should experience at least once. The streets of Put-in-Bay literally turn into an outdoor casino and it’s awesome. Many of the local establishments will be represented, so get out, throw down and try your luck.
- Experience a New England Style Clam Bake…for a Cause – Sherman’s Travel, a very popular travel website, gave a shout out to Put-in-Bay’s Volunteer Fire Department Clambake for being one of the best experiences in the country (article here). The $25 ticket gives you chicken, one dozen clams, clam chowder, corn, potatoes, vegetables and rolls. All of this and ticket proceeds go towards new equipment for the courageous island firefighters. Good food, good feelings. Booking tickets in advance is best by calling 419-285-7805.
- The Best 5k & Family Fun Mile Walk on Lake Erie — So we’re not going to be shy about it, Miller Boat Line is sponsoring a really cool 5k & Family Fun Mile Walk this weekend and we’d love for you to come. With all proceeds benefitting the Mother of Sorrows Church, it’s a great way to get some exercise, help out a local church and take in some beautiful island
views. Registering is easy and you can do so by visiting our events page here.
- The Weather is Still Here — It’s mid-to-late September and we’re still seeing upper 70’s, low 80’s and if you ask us it’s no coincidence. We figure Mother Nature feels a little bad about the rainy June she gave us so she’s repaying with late summer sunny skies. So let’s take it in, catch one last summer island
sunset and make a weekend out of it because after all, fall will be here soon.
