We’re not done yet: Oktoberfest at Put-in-Bay
The forecast for this weekend looks bright…and German.
With summer already wound down, October brings with it many things that we really like. Fall foliage, vibrant colors, crisp nights, harvests, football, that almost smoke-tinged air that we all associate with this time of year…you know that smell. But what do we look forward to the most? Turning DeRivera Park into a German village.
Live polka and German music will echo across South Bass island for this year’s 20th annual Island Oktoberfest on Put-in-Bay. On Saturday, October 12th, the festivities will begin for the weekend giving all of us a great chance for an island adventure before old man winter sets in.
Set amidst the beautiful backdrop of a colorful Lake Erie in the fall, visitors and locals alike get to enjoy a spread fit for even the hardiest of Germans. Many of the local restaurants showcase specialties such as spaetzle, cabbage rolls, German potato salad, sauerbraten, wiener schnitzel, potato pancakes, apple dumplings and German chocolate cake. And of course, German beer and wine provided by local favorite, Heineman’s Winery.
Hours for the celebration are 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Saturday and noon – 5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $4 for adults for a one-day pass and $6 for a 2-day pass. Children 12 and under are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
So get here, save plenty of room, bring your family and keep your eye out for us. We’ll be the ones under the big white tent.
