Miller Ferries to Put-in-Bay 
Season Start up Wednesday, March 17, 2010

To the delight of most residents of the Bass Islands in Lake Erie, the winter proved to be an unusually long ice fishing season which began in January and ended last week. For several weeks in February, the ice trail was stable which allowed islanders to visit the neighboring islands of Middle Bass and North Bass Islands. But, a few days ago, gusty northeast winds quickly broke up the several inches of ice off the west side and in the harbor of the Put-in-Bay, making way for the path for the Miller Ferries.
 
The first sign of spring to many islanders is the start up of the Miller Ferry season which begins on Wednesday, March 17. Miller Ferries depart Catawba to the islands of Put-in-Bay (South Bass) and Middle Bass.
